Pilot project wins Inclusive Participation Award

First prize for Nakopa project: Our touch-and-feel book for children wins the ‚Inclusive Participation‘ prize of the city of Leipzig. Inclusive Participation means that all people are allowed to take part everywhere. The book is called ‘My city Addis Ababa and Leipzig’.

From 15 to 19 November, a Nakopa project group visited Addis Ababa. Katja Roloff (Office for International Affairs) headed the group. The school garden project was the main reason for the visit.


170 children join in ‘City within the City’ holiday activity

In early February, 170 children met for a holiday activity in Addis Ababa. The holiday activity is called ‚City within the City‘. Children and adult helpers with and without disabilities took part in the activity.

Inclusive school garden project in the twin cities of Leipzig and Addis Ababa The right to holistic, inclusive education, regardless of disability, ethnic, cultural or social affiliation, as well as other excluding, normative labels, needs to be implemented since 2008, when the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities came into force.


2. Audio book and radio feature

The ‘Audiobook’ pilot project provides knowledge and skills in the production of audio formats, and presents reports in two radio features. The German Central Library for the Blind (DZB) has been implementing another Nakopa pilot project together with the Ethiopian non-governmental organization called ‚Together!‘.

Touch-and-feel book for children shows: Inclusion crosses all borders. Right from the start, the German Central Library for the Blind (DZB) was involved in the Nakopa project together with the ‘Freunde der DZB’ (Friends of the DZB) support association.

The inclusive simulation game called ‘City in the City’ creates a future model for a fair and ecological city. What will Leipzig look like in the future? What will Addis Ababa look like in the future? What kind of city do we want? Moreover, what can we contribute to this vision?
