Pilot project wins Inclusive Participation Award
Winners of the Inclusive Participation Award 2018 with Leipzig's Mayor Burkhard Jung.

First prize for Nakopa project: Our touch-and-feel book for children wins the ‚Inclusive Participation‘ prize of the city of Leipzig. Inclusive Participation means that all people are allowed to take part everywhere. The book is called ‘My city Addis Ababa and Leipzig’.

Mayor Burkhard Jung handed over the prize on 15 September 2018. This day is called ‘Day of Encounter (meeting day) for people with and without disabilities’, and it took place for the 19th time. The children’s book won first prize. There were two more prizes. Second prize went to the inclusive community centre at ‚Lindenauer Markt 13‘ in Leipzig. ‚Radio Blau‘ radio station received third prize. This station has an inclusive editorial team with disabled and non-disabled coworkers.

Several partners worked on the touch-and-feel book for children in Leipzig:

– The German Central Library for the Blind

– The University of Leipzig, Institute for Special Needs Education

– The after-school care of the Heinrich Mann School

– Schoolchildren of the Waldimir Filatow School.

In Addis Ababa, 13 blind and sighted (not blind) children created the pages of the book. They studied in grades 1 to 8 of the German Church School. The winners of the first prize received 5000 euros. (Source: Leipzig.de)
