First prize for Nakopa pilot project: The tactile children’s book „Meine Stadt Addis Abeba und Leipzig“ („My City Addis Ababa and Leipzig“) wins the Inclusive Participation Award 2018 of the city of Leipzig for enhancing participation opportunities for people with disabilities.

The creators of the touch-and-feel book for children „My City Addis Ababa and Leipzig“ are the winners of the first Inclusive Participation Award of the city of Leipzig. Mayor Burkhard Jung awarded the prize on 15 September 2018 as part of the 19th Day of Encounter for people with and without disabilities. Second prize went to the Inclusive Neighbourhood Centre at ‘Lindenauer Markt 13’ in Leipzig. Third prize was presented to the inclusive radio editorial team at ‘Radio Blau’. In Leipzig, the tactile children’s book was created through a collaboration between the German Central Library for the Blind, the University of Leipzig, the Institute for Special Needs Education, the after-school care centre of the Heinrich Mann School, and schoolchildren of the Waldimir Filatow School. In Addis Ababa, 13 blind and sighted children attending grades 1 to 8 of the German Church School designed their tactile pages. The first winner of the Inclusive Participation Award receives 5,000 euros in prize money. (Source: Leipzig.de)
