A scented garden for the blind
The inclusive school garden is inaugurated in Leipzig
The school project week that took place from 24 to 28 June 2019 at the ‘Berufsschulzentrum 12’ (BSZ 12/Vocational Training Centre 12) in Leipzig produced a great result: Pupils with disabilities, teachers and an inclusion pedagogue worked together to build and design two planters.
The two planters are symbolizing BSZ 12 and and its partner school, the German Church School, for an inclusive school garden. On June 25th, the pupils attending the vocational preparation year visited the Botanical Garden in Leipzig to prepare for the event. They also visited the touch-and-smell garden. The plants for the inclusive school garden were provided by the Botanical Garden. The pupils created small labels indicating the plant names in German, Amharic and Braille. At the partner school in Addis Ababa, the German Church School, the same project will be carried out later this year with the support of the Botanical Garden in Addis Ababa.
