The Nakopa-Delegation in Addis Abeba, November 2018

New pilot projects got underway: A delegation of Nakopa participants from Leipzig headed by Katja Roloff (International Affairs Office) visited Addis Ababa from 15-19 November 2018. While visiting the Botanical Garden, the school garden project has taken shape.

Frank Böhme, head of vocational training for persons with disabilities, and inclusion pedagogue Sarah Junge, both working at Berufsschulzentrum 12 (Vocational Training Centre), are going to implement the school garden project together with the German Church School. Furthermore, Professor Sedsebe Demisew, head of the Botanical Garden in Addis Ababa, has agreed to advise on the selection of plants. He offered the prospect of establishing a touch garden (for visually disabled people) on the grounds of the Botanical Garden. For this purpose, a cooperation with the Leipzig Botanical Garden shall be initiated.

While visiting Addis Ababa, delegation members also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the TVET administration (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) in the Ethiopian capital. Thomas Graupner, head of the State Office for Schools and Education in Zwickau, and Ulrich Stephan, an integrated CIM expert in Addis Ababa, have already been fostering collaboration in qualified vocational training for some time.

In addition, the inclusive holiday activity called ‘City within the City’ entered the detailed planning stage.
